Automated Retort Processing Line for Canned Baby Corn
This automatic basket loading & unloading line for baby corn works in conjunction with water bath and spray retorts. Tailored to the fragile nature of baby corn, which is prone to breakage and bruising, it addresses common pain points of conventional processes: labor-intensive manual can stacking and basket handling, inconsistent product quality batch to batch, and harsh high-temperature working conditions. It is suitable for large-scale export production of baby corn packed in tin cans or glass jars.
The complete line consists of automatic basket loading unit, retort basket transfer trolleys, retort interface conveyors, unloading unit and finished-product conveying modules. All functions are centrally controlled by PLC. It can seamlessly connect with upstream and downstream equipment such as can sealers, can inspection machines and labellers, enabling fully automated operations including basket loading & retort infeed before sterilization, as well as retort discharge and can unloading after sterilization.
The line adopts flexible transfer and positioning mechanism with gentle stacking movement, which greatly reduces broken baby corn and can surface scratches, preserving the crisp texture and appearance of final products. Standardized spacing for each layer ensures smooth water circulation inside the retort, consistent heat distribution across batches and stable F₀ value. This minimizes risks of uneven sterilization and swollen cans, and meets traceability requirements for export certifications.
The system replaces repetitive heavy manual work including can stacking, basket transfer and can unloading, eliminating strenuous high-temperature working posts at retort openings. On-site staff only perform routine inspection, material top-up and fault handling. It helps ease recruitment difficulties and avoid quality variations caused by inconsistent manual operation. Consistent and stable production rhythm also improves the utilization rate of retorts.
The whole machine is constructed of food-grade 304 stainless steel. Its surface is easy to wash and clean, complying with food plant hygiene standards. Customization is available according to customers’ existing retort basket dimensions and designed production capacity.
